Why would my medical condition impact my choices?
Different centers may have different degrees of expertise to manage different patient medical conditions; therefore, each center determines what medical characteristics are appropriate for accepting a candidate to its waiting list. For example, not all centers are equally likely to place older age or overweight candidates on a waiting list.

Will some centers be hidden from the search results?
No, all adult transplant centers within the area determined by the zip code and search radius (if provided) will be shown. A center might appear in the search results even if the recent recipients do not match your medical characteristics. Centers that have transplanted only pediatric candidates will be omitted.

Why am I asked to enter personal information?
The personalized search will help you find centers that transplant patients like you. Answering these questions will allow the search results to display information about how many recent transplant recipients at a center share the same characteristics.

How does the website use my personal information?
The website looks for any personal characteristic that might limit your choices for a center. If you enter a characteristic that might limit your choices for a center, a short note will explain how your response might impact your choices. When search results are displayed, you can see information on how many recent transplant recipients match these characteristics at different centers. The website does not store identifying information and does not share identifying information with any third party.

What do I do if a center has not recently transplanted patients like me?
Transplant centers evaluate candidates on a case-by-case basis. The search results can display information about how many recent recipients matched a specific characteristic, but this does not determine whether a center would accept any particular candidate in the future. If you have a characteristic that does not match recent recipients at a center, you can contact the center or your medical team to learn more.

What do I do if none of the characteristics I entered limit my choices?
If you do not see any notes about information you enter, your characteristics may be commonly accepted at centers. An evaluation is still important because centers may make decisions based on factors not on this website. Other quality measures are available to help you decide what center is right for you.
